Pedestrian bridge installation overnight

Pedestrian bridge installation to impact traffic during overnight hours

Shelter from the elements and awe-inspiring visuals provided by the roadway canopies nearing completion at ATL are just a few of the benefits the new structures will offer.  The canopies will also include pedestrian bridges, designed to improve efficiency and safety by moving thousands of passengers off the roadways.  Enabling work on the first of four bridges is ongoing and has had little impact to the public.  Overnight work in the weekends ahead, however, may affect passengers and employees who use the North Roadway and North parking structures.

Major preparations to install the first bridge will take place in the first weekend in June. During the overnight hours of Saturday June 1 into Sunday June 2, the North Lower roadway will be closed completely from 11:00 p.m. until 3:00 a.m. Overnight employee shuttles will be relocated to the Rental Car Center at 8:45 Saturday night and will return to normal early Sunday morning.  Passengers and employees who use the North Lower roadway at this time will be directed to the upper roadway.

The bridge is scheduled to be installed the following weekend; substantial impacts are expected.  Saturday night, June 8, the entire North upper roadway will be closed from 9:00 p.m. through 5:00 a.m. impacting the following operations:

  • Overnight employee shuttles will be relocated to the Rental Car Center.
  • The North Rideshare pick up area will be closed – all Lyft and Uber pick-ups will take place at the South location.
  • Park ATL customers will be directed to the North Lower Level – through door LN2 – beginning at approximately 8:00 p.m.

The work is expected to be complete early Sunday morning and all operations will return to normal as quickly as possible.

The bridge is expected to be complete and open for use in 2020.

The South Canopy is expected to be complete in early fall 2019.
